Rees's plan to save redgums faces the axe-The decision of the former premier Nathan Rees to immediately end logging of the Riverina redgums has been reversed by the state government.  It has opted for a five-year wind-down of logging, coupled with the establishment of national and regional parks that cover much of the contested area.

 

Tapping into a cycle of life-THE difference between the two tomato plants is stark. Both were planted on the same day seven weeks ago but only one has prospered, its stem becoming as thick as a man's thumb and its verdant foliage heavy with fruit. The other plant is thinner; not exactly unhealthy but far less vibrant and with just one tiny green tomato.

 

Environment groups condemn Alcoa power deal-Aluminium exporter, Alcoa has signed a 20-year deal to use brown coal-fired electricity to power its Victorian smelters. Latrobe Valley power generator, Loy Yang Power will sell electricity to Alcoa until 2036, to power the smelters at Portland and Geelong.
