unaa logoIn case you hadn’t heard, the United Nations of Association of Australia is calling for nominations for their World Environment Day Awards, but time is of the essence, as nominations will close on 14 May 2010. This year there are 12 awards in total, including the inaugural ‘Biodiversity Award’ in recognition of 2010 being designated by the United Nations (UN) as the Year of Biodiversity.

This National Awards Program is designed to recognise those who display innovation and dedication to protecting, managing and restoring the environment and encourages environmental leadership, and promotes awareness of environmental issues on a global scale. Over the years the World Environment Day Awards have showcased some of the most important and exciting environmental projects in Australia. The awards are open to businesses, community groups, local governments, schools, individuals and the media across Australia.

This year's UNEP World Environment Day theme is “Many Species, One Planet, One Future”, so the new ‘Biodiversity Award’ seeks to recognise the best company, organisation, community or individual that has demonstrated innovation and excellence in the development and management of Australia’s biodiversity.

Nominations will CLOSE at 5pm on Friday 14 May 2010.
