I am the communications officer for Voiceless, the animal protection institute. I joined this small but busy team in September 2009, and I feel very fortunate to have found a job that I’m passionate about and an organisation I truly believe in. At Voiceless I do things like write for Green Times, draft speeches and press releases, write our newsletters and web content and respond to our supporter enquiries. When I’m not in the office I’m at home in Sydney’s beautiful Blue Mountains with my dog Starbuck and my veggie patch.
Voiceless is unlike other animal groups, in that we are not a grassroots organisation. Instead, we build capacity within the animal protection movement by giving grants to other groups who do specific animal projects; growing the animal law movement by having the first full-time animal rights lawyer in Australia and getting animal law courses into 9 Australian universities; and working to lift the veil of secrecy around factory farming and the kangaroo cull by producing independent reports and providing information to help consumers make decisions about what they eat and buy, in line with their own intrinsic values.
Please visit the Voiceless website to find out more about what we do, sign up for our free newsletter and see what you can do to help animals in Australia. You can also find us on twitter: Voiceless is @VoicelessFund and I’m @kellyblainey.
