Cityfood Growers provides services and knowledge to support the transformation of our food system to be more local and organic.
Our business empowers people living in around cities with easy access to localised knowledge so they can be more productive at growing their own vegetables, fruit and herbs with organic methods. We facilitate local and global connections between gardeners. Our web site at www.cityfoodgrowers.com.au is recognised as a leading use of new technology to support food gardening.
We are based in Brisbane, Australia and deliver our services locally, nationally and for a growing list of countries. Our web site is localised for subscribers in any town or city of Australia, USA and New Zealand, with the UK planned for 2011. Our gardening workshops and consulting services to individuals, schools and organisations are delivered in Australia.
The business commenced in 2006 and the first release of the web site was in mid 2008. The company was founded by Peter Kearney, an experienced organic and biodynamic gardener, educator and technologist. “As new subscribers join our web site each day, we are realising our goal of building a global community around local food”.
During 2010, we partnered with a major educational institution in Queensland, Australia to deliver our web site subscription to over 400 educational venues and we are a key industry partner in a major research project run by Queensland University of Technology to use online technology to engage the public in growing their own food, healthy eating and cooking.
