With a growing focus on the environment, many people are seeking ways of minimising their carbon footprint, reducing energy bills and making their home self sustainable. A solution – solar energy.

Solar panels are increasingly being installed in Australian homes, allowing residents to use solar energy to generate electricity as well as producing hot water. There are two main types of solar panels used in domestic homes - the first produces hot water, the second produces electricity and if the system makes more power than the home requires, surplus power is fed back into the power grid, in effect spinning the meter backwards, resulting in household savings!

Solar panel legislation

New Laws have made Solar Power ownership even more affordable with Energy companies now paying up to 44c per KW for green power. That is about 3 times more than the going rate for power which is around 15c per KW.

Customers can find qualified energy efficiency consultants accredited by the H.I.A Greensmart program and the Association of Building Sustainability Assessors in specialized shop like Allsafe. This helps clients when building or renovating to design more efficient homes based on their house plans.
