Butt Free Australia is an environmental product stewardship organisation that focuses on cigarette butt litter and the impact that is has on the environment.
Our national awareness campaign 'Not a Good Look' has been developed in response to comprehensive behavioural reserach that suggests littering butts is not a good look for neither the litterer nor the area being littered. It encourages the broader community to reassess its attitudes to cigarette butt littering and reminds smokers to PLEASE BUTT IT, THEN BIN IN.
A dedicated campaign website notagoodlook.com.au has a range of resources to assist both those who "know you shouldn't drop 'em" but need to understand why its a serious problem and those who are "sick of seeing butts everywhere" and want to do something about it.
Our ButtFREE Tool Kit is step-by-step guide to developing a butt littering reduction project using proven ButtFREE Solutions - context, awareness, education, infrastructure and enforcement to influence behaviour. The ButtFREE Tool Kit can be downloaded from www.buttfree.org.au
As a product stewardship organisation dealing with the issue of cigarette butt litter, Butt Free Australia actively seeks funding from the tobacco industry to address the problem. Butt Free Australia receives funding from British American Tobacco Australia Limited who was responsible for the initiative to establish the organisation in 2003. Under its Trust Deed funding is also able to be sought; and can be accepted from any other body that has stake in the issue of cigarette butt litter.
