Living in a eco-friendly house, stylish and modern, surrounded by nature but still being close to the city centre, is not anymore matter of dreams. A residential complex located in Adelaide shows us an example of new green development available in the market.
A unique eco friendly energy efficient housing development, consisting of 15 single & double storey townhouses, is a flagship project underway by the new start-up company called Sustainable Property Developments (SPD).
The development, located 35 minutes south of the Adelaide CBD in the heart of the Fleurieu Peninsula, combines the most innovative building techniques, including solar energy, with the style and character of a funky inner city apartment. “We wanted to prove that it's possible to build sustainable eco friendly homes without compromising on quality and style”, says Nathan Godfrey, Project Manager of the development.
The eco-features
Each house includes up to 1.1kW of solar systems, 13,000L underground rainwater harvesting tanks, 240V fluorescent down lights that look like halogens but use 80% less energy and AAA rated water fittings. As well as being environmentally friendly the houses can help save home owners money, through Government Rebates or Renewable Energy Certificates, as well as the possibility of qualifying for a discount on green home loan mortgages. “The majority of our residents are living in credit, they send their un-used electricity back to the grid with an import/export meter and never pay any energy bills, again it’s hard to believe but it’s a reality for our clients” says Project Manager Nathan.
To promote the development, a high profile campaign focused on the theme “Freedom to Live!” is being planned. “We are building homes that don’t require any air-conditioning in the summer or heating in the winter, which is a difficult concept for many Australians to believe”. Nathan says. “So we’re encouraging people to tour our new show home and enter the draw to win 2 prizes of a weekend getaway staying in The Terraces – we think this is the best way to learn about things like thermal mass insulation, through flow ventilation, north orientation, and reverse brick veneer construction”.
The final release of house & land packages are available now with a choice of three different floor designs, and because these homes are being sold ‘off the plan’ there is an opportunity to put the finishing touches on your dream home by choosing the interior and exterior colours before construction begins.
