Pilates was invented by Joseph Pilates, a German Gymnast in early 20th century. Pilates involves both physical and mental fitness, and focuses mostly on body movement. The goal of Pilates is to make the body move properly and increase flexibility by concentrating on the muscular and skeletal system as a whole.

There are six Principles of Pilates; concentration, control, center, flow, precision and breathing. These rules should be strictly kept at all times. If these rules are not followed, the Pilates exercises will not have the desired outcome.

Please note that since Pilates is a truly strenuous workout, exercising Pilates during pregnancy should be conducted in the presence of an expert.
