money heartEver wondered how to make money helping the environment at the same time? The ethical investment sector is one of the fastest growing in the financial industry. Your superannnuation might be a way for you to start social responsable investments.

Ever wondered what you can do for your planet, and your wallet, without lifting much more than a finger? You might be surprised by what a significant difference you can make simply by changing your superannuation company.

A subtle contradiction might vanish your green efforts

While those who invest directly in shares know exactly what companies they are investing in, the same can’t be said for the majority of people who have money invested in superannuation or managed funds.  Fund managers could be investing your money in companies whose activities don’t align with your own personal values. You could be saving all the water and energy you can, while at the same time your super is invested in companies who are energy and water wasters.

Here’s a tip that’s going to help you make money and sleep better at night, knowing you are not contributing to the ongoing destruction of our planet. Get your money working for you in ethical investments, sometimes called socially responsible investment.

Now I don’t mean just any investment company which has jumped on the green bandwagon of late, but a truly green ethical investment group that not only avoids investments in areas such as uranium mining, weapons manufacture, and logging of old growth forests, but is also proactively seeking, stimulating and influencing investment in rapidly emerging growth sectors such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, water conservation, alternative fuels, recycling, organic agriculture and healthcare.

Examples of green projects

A couple of examples: a Queensland-based company managing an international portfolio of projects focussing on renewable energy and waste fuels, providing greenhouse gas emission reductions equivalent to around 10 million tonnes per year of carbon dioxide; an Australian company developing, manufacturing and installing a range of products around the world in the areas of stormwater and wastewater treatment and water recycling.

And if you think that you will miss out financially by investing in this way, you have been proven wrong already.

The ethical investment sector is one of the fastest growing in the financial industry. Ethical businesses are likely to produce the best long-term returns as all companies will be increasingly required to meet ever more stringent environmental conditions.

Put your money where your heart is and rollover your super into ethical investments. It’s time to get busy saving the planet!
