110920-greatcanyon

The Grand Canyon in Arizona USA is a beautiful example of the power of nature, and is one of the most studied geologic landscapes in the world. This massive canyon has been incised by the Colorado River which still flows on the bottom of the canyon. The size of the canyon is immense, averaging 1,200 metres deep for its entire 445 kilometres. It's 1,828 metres deep at it's deepest point and 24 kilometres at its widest.

In 1919 Grand Canyon achieved National Park status and receives over five million visitors each year.
