Switch the light off, switch Earth on

New York, Las Vegas (pictured), Tokyo, Beijing and Moscow might be very dynamic and attractive cities, but they are also some of the largest consumers of electricity all around world. Why is it that in cities the buildings stay lit up all night long? It might be beautiful but it’s more important to save electricity, fossil fuel, and all that wasted energy instead!

To encourage environmental sustainability and to reduce our electricity consumption, we can adopt other ways of consuming: making use of green energy, solar panels, or low consumption light bulbs instead.

Changing our energy consumption may not be easy for everyone, but simple and daily gestures like turning off the lights when leaving the room or turning down the heater by two or three degrees are easy accessible and will help lead to change in our collective behaviour.

Once a year Earth Hour illustrates this idea by uniting hundreds of countries, thousands of cities and millions of people around the planet to switch off the lights for one hour. Why not everyday?

Check out the Lighting & Electrical Services section of the Green Times Business Directory to find green businesses that can help reduce your energy consumption.
