I’ve always thought of a roundabout as just a traffic control system. Yet, while I was visiting North America recently I realised that the benefits of roundabouts go far beyond safety and traffic flow performance. In fact, roundabouts have significant environmental benefits!
As the summer heats up, we retreat to the cool of our air-conditioned classrooms, lounge rooms and offices. We grizzle about our shrivelling gardens and rising energy and grocery costs, but many of us remain oblivious to the cost to our environment. We notice the unseasonal weather, complaining about cold snaps, heat waves and natural disasters, but we fail to take responsibility.
Having been involved in the environmental, energy saving and energy producing products industry for some 14 years now, oftentimes one gets the feeling that you have pretty much seen it all. So when I was invited to attend one of the world’s largest green conferences, “West Coast Green”, I jumped at the chance to see what was new and how things were being done or developed in the USA.
