With our political leadership in chaos, the need for sustainable certainty has never been more needed. This week we have a couple events that focus on our political sustainable strategy moving forward and how to prepare for carbon regulation.
Attending these seminars is a great way to find out more about environmental actions that can be taken to be more sustainable. This week you can attend the Politics of Sustainability (13 and 22 July) in Melbourne and Sydney, and Carbon- Sustainability and Your Business (20 July) in Melbourne.
13 July 2010 – Politics of Sustainability, Melbourne
22 July 2010 – Politics of Sustainability, Sydney
In light of the upcoming federal election, Green Capital is holding a couple unique events lead by respective experts. These events will focus on sustainability, policy advocacy and the rise of community activism. There may be some hard questions asked as our politics have become quite chaotic in recent weeks.
Some of the issues these events will tackle include the shelving of the ETS and what is plan B, the Greens strategy to take balance of power in the senate, and the opposition leadership taken from Australia’s most outspoken sustainable conservative leader, Malcolm Turnbull.
Some of the questions being asked:
Can it be taken for granted that a post-Global Financial Crisis nation is more worried about its hip-pocket in the here-and-now than a price on carbon to save the future?
Whatever happened to corporate social responsibility – new laws or voluntary action?
Does the Henry Tax Review lay out a future path?
Can we achieve a green economy without political leadership driving the innovation, investment and jobs?
Will sustainability drop off business radar, leaving it exposed to activism and legal suits?
And, of course, who will Australia vote for? And what promises will advocates seek from the candidates at the moment of their greatest political sensitivity - the election campaign itself?
Speakers at this event include Tim Costello from World Vision, John Thwaites of Monash Sustainability Institute, Stephen Mayne of The Mayne Report, among others will talk in Melbourne.
In Sydney the speakers include Tony Maher of CFMEU, Julian Disney of the UNSW, and Bill Hurditch of The Fifth Estate, among others.
