saving the planetWhen Lismore man Paul Jessup sees a piece of rubbish lying in the gutter, he can’t himself: he has to pick it up.
The unusual thing about Paul is what he does with the junk he finds. Instead of popping it in the nearest bin, he stashes it in his pocket and takes it home to his workshop, where he pulls it apart and separates into its individual parts before placing it in storage.

nappies mountainIn Australia alone, approximately 800 million single-use nappies are delivered to landfill sites every year, and they may take up to 500 years to degrade. That’s over 2 million every day! Amounting to 110,000 tonnes of solid waste yearly, or nearly 60 Olympic-size pools full!

Cut down paper, not trees

eco paper Australians consume an amazing 4.4 million tonnes of paper and paper products each year – that’s 200kg each! “Given the seriousness of the climate change issue and the limited supply of our natural resources, it is not sustainable for us to continue as a paper-heavy and paper-reliant society,” said Sean Barrett, of Planet Ark.
