1. DEFINITION: "poaching"

poaching

Any illegal obtaining of animals or wild plants, that violates interntional conservation and wildlife management laws, is known as poaching. Only wild animals can be poached, while domestic animals can only be stolen.

Plant poaching activities are starting to rise. In the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in the United States, the ginseng growing in the area is being poached. The reason why poachers find it worth their while to remove the ginseng from the park, is because wild ginseng is worth more than $267-$374 a pound in the black market.
